Scarface meets The Devil's Advocate. That's the best and most apt description of King of the Avenue. The film offers the perfect mixture of these two classic films, featuring such top-class actors as Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer, Keanu Reeves, and Charlize Theron. And yet King of the Avenue has become a unique, gripping thriller that creates a pull that's hard to resist. This is partly due to the truly brilliant lead actor, Ving Rhames, who rose to world cinematic fame with his role as the feisty crime boss Marsellus Wallace in Quentin Tarantino's masterpiece Pulp Fiction. He truly succeeds in providing the highest level of entertainment.

But as already mentioned, the story that director and screenwriter Ryan Combs (Wrath of Cain, Animal 2) captured on celluloid in 2010 is also quite something. Taz (Simon Rex, Scarie Movie Parts 3 + 4) wants nothing less than to become the biggest drug dealer in Miami. He dreams of ultimate power and wealth. But in reality he is just a henchman of the current crime kingpin Hector (Hemky Madera, Weeds, Joshua Tree), for whom he conducts drug deals. Unfortunately, Taz gets on the wrong side of his boss when he tries to pull off a drug deal behind his boss's back. When Hector finds out, he naturally wants to kill Taz immediately. He also has his sights set on his wife and children. What a sinister bastard. But then Taz has a vision. The devil himself (Esai Morales, NYPD Blue, Fast Food Nation) appears to him. He makes him an offer he really can't refuse. Taz gratefully accepts and immediately reaps the success he hoped for in the form of power, money, and beautiful women. He is now the King of the Avenue and takes Hector's place. But the devil, of course, demands his promised fee. In return, Taz has to dig up the bones of his murdered stepfather Norman (Ving Rhames, Mission: Impossible Parts 1-3, Con Air), who was a major gangster boss before his death, because the devil wants to breathe life back into him. But when Norman actually reappears, he is inhabited by the evil demon De'Sha. And his intentions are destruction. What is initially directed against Taz's enemies quickly turns against his friends and family. And thus Taz has a huge problem. How can he get out of the deal with the devil and get rid of the demon without his loved ones having to suffer? It's really extremely tough, because the devil doesn't let anyone out of his clutches that easily.
